New Map: Edge

Seeing as it’s been over 2 months since my last blog post, I’ve decided I’d say a few things about a recent project of mine: A TF2 map named “Edge”. Edge is a 3-point control point map dressed in the lovely alpine textures. As the name suggests, the map will feature an area with a rather large “edge”.
I had my first alpha version complete, however, after having a play test with Mr. Attollo I realized some things had to change… So there I sat. At least an hour in total trying to figure out ways to improve the layout, but alas, to no avail. So I decided to start from complete scratch with Alpha 2 but quickly realize that it resembled Gravelpit far, far too much. Development of the map at this point pretty much stopped as I lost all interest in the matter, but for the past two days as I’ve sat here bored to death I decided to pick Source SDK Hammer back up again. I started with a fresh new map but quickly went back to my old map Edge.
After drawing up a quick sketch I started working on it earlier today. So far I only have the point A area laid out, and I started working on point B before having to quit. Again, I started from complete scratch, I still have my design concepts in mind from the original design, but the layout simply was not working.
Here’s the lowdown:
- Point A will be the point by the “edge”, and on the edge you will be upon capping point A… literally! My plan is to have the point A area in a small building that sits right next to the edge of the cliff. The point itself will be by an open area in the building allowing the chance of sentries, demomen, soldiers, or scouts to shoot you off, or pyros to air-blast you off the edge.
- Point B will take place in a “train station”.
- Point C will take place inside a cave.
Not much to be said on points B and C as they’re more generic (at least so far, no plans to change it yet).
Here’s a dev screenshot from Hammer of what I have done so far:

I’m sure it will be cool! Let me know if you want skippy and i to help with the playtesting. I wouldn’t trust “attolio”.
