New Design

Well, finally, after much thinking, consideration, planning, coding, and graphics making, I’ve finally finished a new design for my site.

I couldn’t help but feel that my old design was starting to get old. There were many things bothering me, such as the main page, the terrible banner, the ugly favicon, and the absolute horrible blog layout. Now, it’s all new and fresh.

I haven’t taken the proper time yet to test everything between different browsers. I do know that IE6 has issues with the transparent PNGs I have all over the site. There’s ways I could fix this, and I may at a later time, but at the moment I just wanted to get the new design up. There may also be other little bugs and quirks that will need to be fixed, but for the most part I believe everything is good.

I am still using Wordpress as my CMS, I doubt that will ever change. However, rather than starting this Wordpress theme from complete scratch (like I usually do) I found a blank Wordpress theme called “Starkers” (http://elliotjaystocks.com/starkers/) This was extremely helpful, since all of Wordpress’ functions are already there for the most part. All I needed to do was change some of the code to my liking, then start adding HTML and styling it. Cut the time it usually takes to make a Wordpress theme in half, and I can rest assured that all necessary pieces to a fully functional Wordpress theme are there, without worrying about everything I missed.

I fully intend to use Starkers from now on. In-fact, you may have noticed a new menu item on top called “Themes”. Eventually I plan on starting to create Wordpress themes (and possibly themes for other software’s later on) for public use. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, I just haven’t taken the time to do it. Currently I’ve got other projects going on that I would like to see done before tackling the Themes section though. Not only that, but I’ll need to figure out how to implement it which will be the interesting part, but I have a few ideas in mind.

Anyway, I hope you all like my new design. Surprisingly, this has been my first complete overhaul since starting the site. Better that my 6 redesign run in one year when I had Unhealthy Obsession. So, this is good for me :)
