Finally! My new website is done!
For my first post on my new website, I’ll give a brief summary on how this website came to be….
Over two years ago, myself and my cousin started a forum called “Unhealthy Obsession”. After a few months of having the forum open, my cousin told me I should learn HTML. At the time I knew nothing about HTML, or even CSS (never had even heard of the things). That Christmas, my cousin actually bought me a HTML book. I was very fascinated by it to the point of where I couldn’t put the book down – I wanted to learn more. Over the past 2 years, I have learned MUCH with HTML, CSS, and a little bit of PHP, yet, there seems to be so much more to learn..
Last year I bought the domain “Stargater59.com” in hopes of coming up with a website for web-design. I was never able to get it to that point, unfortunately. Last month I ended up closing Unhealthy Obsession and after a suggestion of creating a portfolio website by my cousin (yes, her again lol) I ended up dropping the Stargater59.com domain and purchasing KeithBrinks.com. For the past two months I have been working on this website on and off. It hasn’t been until the past two weeks, really, that I have gotten some-what inspired enough to finish it.
My goals with this website is to focus more on web-design and related things. My portfolio is rather small at the moment but I plan (somehow) to expand it. I have a project I’ll be working on here soon, and another will come up later on hopefully. Other than that I hope to get into making some public WordPress and SMF themes which is what will probably fill my Portfolio up the most. I also have been working on a TF2 map, but, we’ll see how that goes…
I think the hardest part of this website was designing both the Portfolio page and the Front page. The portfolio page actually went through several redesigns before settling on the one its on now. The front page I just had a difficult time finding content to put on it. In my original design concept of the site, I had planned on the featured content slider but after some difficulties with it, I decided to drop it in hopes of finding something else. Well, I couldn’t find something else to fill up that page so I decided to bring it back. I really like it now that’s on there and functional.
The overall design concept is simply… simple! I decided to go with a “Minimal” design after getting inspiration reading This Post on the Web Designer Wall. As much as I love the “image” heavy, etc designs, I found that I really liked the minimal side of things, too.
Another thing I love about this website is, it’s powered by WordPress! I loved WordPress before I began working on this site, but I think it grew on me even more. WordPress is in my opinion thee best CMS system out there. You cannot go wrong with it and I highly recommend it if you’re thinking of starting a website. It’s easy!
Alright, enough rambling. Take a look around, and feel free to make comments!
Hey there! I love the look of this site! It’s really clean and crisp. Me likee!
